Friday, August 18. 2023 - Get to the Cornucopia!!

HELLO EVERYONE

Not anything crazy special this week other than a ton of little stories, so here we go:

We found out there is indeed Taco Bell in El Salvador🤑🤑🤑 I am pretty hype about that because I love me some Taco Bell. Me and the other two Elders going to El Salvador in my district are already talking about our plans of going once we get to the field.

This one guy in my district named every single one of his ties and assigned them powerups and abilities. It is actually so funny. I'll attach a picture down below but let me tell you, this dude is one of the funniest guys I've ever met. His one liners are just absolutely unmatched. Shoutout Elder Taylor🙌

So one weird thing that has come to my attention is that I apparently sound like Barry B. Benson from The Bee Movie?? a.k.a Jerry Sienfeld. LeFevre told me that and most people agreed so what can I say now other than "ya like jazz😏" (if you know The Bee Movie you know)

One super weird thing about being here is how many similarities there are to the Hunger Games. I don't mean child battle royales to the death but in other ways. For example, every Sunday during church you find out if you are giving a talk based on if your name is announced for who is speaking! So it is basically like the reaping. As soon as the brach president started talking before he said who was giving the talks Elder Taylor gave me the most devious look I've ever seen I about burst out laughing. To make it even weirder, we are also put into DISTRICTS, so that makes it even more odd, and 1 person from each district speaks every sunday (there are 4 districts in our branch), so this week Hermana Cox was district 2B's Katniss Everdeen🕊 The gunshots that go off outside of the CCM also sound like the cannons when people die in the Hunger Games, and there are birds here that are constantly tweeting. We were outside doing an activity and the birds were going crazy, and Elder Taylor just looks and me and says "mockingjays". I daily feel more and more in harmony with the franchise. Spanish has been coming along alright, I said a prayer in spanish in front of a native spanish speaker who doesn't speak any english and she told me I had good spanish so I took that as a W. The weather here has also been really nice, high 60s and cloudy in the morning. Heavenly.

The infamous pollo rojo has had many mentions this week. First, when a red chicken dish that was served at the cafeteria that apparently was not THE pollo rojo was served, no one was taking it out of fear. So, they made an announcement on the loudspeaker that it was indeed NOT the red chicken, and it was safe to eat💀 Later, our teacher showed us a picture that was sent out to all the teachers that was basically anti anti red chicken propaganda. It was telling the teachers not to spread rumors about the chicken, but I'm still staying clear😅

Hacky sacks got banned this week during breaks, and now you can't play with them anywhere other than during exercise time and can't buy them at the store anymore😭

Me and the other 3 guys in my room have made up/been playing a lot of random games, one of which is this game called Book of Mormon battles. It is similar to the game war, where you play cards at the same time and try and have the highest point value play. The end goal of the game is to have all the cards at the end, but I think it is made for children and we have found some combos of cards to play that are literally unbeatable and we stalemate for hours and have to forfeit. I always get out first, but then Elder Taylor and Elder Bruce battle it out for a while before they give up. Another one of our games is listening to the Samsung ringtones and trying to figure out which one is the best, also very entertaining. Related to alarms, we have been playing this game where the first person to get out of bed and turn the alarm off in the morning wins, but someone set an alarm that goes off about 2 minutes before ours that always wakes up Elder Bruce, so then he is awake and ready to turn the alarm off immediately. So of course we naturally decided to set an alarm for 3am last night to level the playing field. I was awoken by the technobeat alarm and the combined sound of Elder Taylor and Bruce jumping off of the top bunks of their beds and crashing into the table at 3am to take the cake, but Bruce still won so I guess we now know who the real champion is.

Basketball here has been pretty fun, one day I literally and physically turned into Steph Curry and probably scored 14 3 pointers in a day, which was epic. Then another day I accidentally scored a layup on a 2 time state champion starting point guard from Utah, so I guess you could say I'm a baller🏀

We did a practice lesson with these 2 11 year old boys from Puebla Mexico yesterday and it was pretty fun! The one kid was pretty hard to understand but the other one I could talk to pretty well, and he at least understood what I was saying. He said he likes to play Fortnite so that's pretty sick. In spanish class my teacher has been getting a little sidetracked. Me and him have started singing Like Me from Teen Beach Movie out of nowhere in class twice now, and also Boyfriend by Big Time Rush. He also was showing us google maps of Mexico City, and showed us his house, his walk to work, where he eats, and a field he used to play soccer in when he was 10. He then showed us a video of him losing the championship game on a penalty kick that he missed at the age of 10 and him crying. Muy triste. We have been teaching him a lot of slang so he told a guy in my district he has no rizz and also said no more sus so that was pretty funny.
