Friday, September 1, 2023 - Mason Ramsey in Mexico City💯👀 (EMOTIONAL)

Hey peeps,

Things here are starting to get a little more repetitive, but it's ok because my next email that will be sent will be from EL SALVADOR!!! I have about 5 days here left and then I'm off to the actual mission field!! I'm nervous but so so so excited to get going!

To close out the Hunger Games at the CCM, we had determined that whoever in our district got picked to speak in church this past week would become Peeta, but sadly no one from our district got picked🤧 or so we THOUGHT. SURPRISE SECOND ROUND REAPING ELDER HALL IS OUR PEETA🦅

There are some Elders here who are going to serve in this rural place in Guatemala and they have to learn this language called xiatchi or something? I don't even know how to spell it, but one of the three bore their testimony in the language and the other said a closing prayer!! Super super cool stuff! Makes me glad I'm just learning spanish😅

We started doing only Spanish classes this week instead of a spiritual class in the morning and a Spanish class at night, and it has for sure helped the days go by a little faster! The afternoon class is still pretty hectic though. Here are some highlights:
-Taylor threw a Ritz cracker into Bruce's mouth like a Frisbee which in the moment was sick
-someone said to my teacher that Christian Pulisic was the goat of soccer and he probably made the most confused and disappointed face I have ever seen
-my teacher showed us some meme where a dude just says "el pepe". I don't even know what that means
-my teacher talked to us for the first 40 minutes of class one day about random stuff like movies, music, I don't even remember but our stalling game was on point

Something that was a ton of fun this week was doing practice activities with the Latinos!! It was so much fun to talk with the native spanish speakers and actually be able to communicate ok with them! I was told by a few of them that my Spanish was very good so that was quite encouraging. Don't get me wrong though I still don't know Spanish, I will be so humbled as soon as I get to the field

And now for the title of this email: we were on one of our 5 minutes breaks in between classes, and one of the elders in my district said something about the yodeling Walmart kid, and another guy said "yeah did you know he is like an actual country artist and like makes music, his name is Mason Ramsey" OOOOOOOH YES do I know Mason Ramsey. I didn't tell them the part where I put a cowboy hat, played guitar, and sang "on my way" by Mason Ramsey in high school with some friends, so shoutout Mia and Somya for making me remember those epic mems of singing and tik toking to good ole Mason🤠

One thing I really liked from this week was a recorded devotional given by Dieter F. Uchtdorf. It was originally given to and for missionaries so perfect for us. It talked about the success of your work being dependent on the things YOU can control, those being your thoughts, feelings, and efforts. Now having someone tell you you can control your thoughts and feelings may seem odd and unrealistic, but it is actually true! We can CHOOSE how we react to certain situations or circumstances, and try our best to make the most out of them! This has for sure helped me this week as I have tried to step up my focus, effort, and attitude here at the Mexico Training Center.

Love you all so so much, as always pleeeeeease send me emails with stories, pictures, whatever it may be!!

Talk to you all next week from EL SALVADOR 🇸🇻 ✨️ 🙌
