Monday, September 25, 2023 - Have Fun in Miami!!!๐๐
Hey everybody!!
THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE WHO EMAILS ME AND GIVES ME RANDOM LIFE UPDATES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK I LIVE FOR IT. I love the pictures, stories, all of it, so thank you thank you thank you and keep em coming!!
OK this week honestly kind of flew by! The title of the email comes from a conversation we had with a lady this week. It was our second time meeting with her and I was having a hard time juggling the conversation between my comp, the one lady, and the other lady, but I was picking up something about her asking us about the US, how we got here, and that was kind of all I got. I also picked up that they kept on saying "Miami, Miami" but I didn't know why. Well after we were done talking to them Elder Tripp filled me in that the woman was planning on leaving the country to try and get to Miami where she has some kids who live there, but she was trying to figure out if she could take a plane or had to drive. So yeah, we haven't gone back yet so she could be in Miami right now but her plan wasn't exactly full proof so we will see what happens but I hope the best for her๐
I had 2 moments this week where I had the opportunity to be with a different missionary for part of the day. For a while I went to an area called Opico with a missionary named Elder Santos and we did some calls and talked to some people, it was fun to be in their area! I then went with one of my zone leaders Elder Risenmay to a service project and we pulled big pieces of wood out of a huge pile of dirt for this family. It was pretty important because they said if we helped them, they would come to church the next day, and the husband hadn't been in like 10 years so it was a big deal, and he was there the next day! Overall just fun to talk to some other missionaries!!
Quick little shoutout about it being the 21st Night of September this week for all my Earth Wind and Fire fans out there, mainly my own father Greg Bacon๐ค
This doesn't seem like a highlight but I had to go and do some immigration stuff this week, and it was really really fun because I got to see some missionaries in my house in the training center, Elders Gardner, Steadman, and Sanderson. It was so fun to catch up with them!! We also got to go to Burger King after and who knew that was such a delicacy hahaha I only got ice cream but still it hit different๐ฆ
A guy this week came up to us who came up to us on my very first day here in El Salvador and called us tomatoes again and asked us where we were from and stuff and said "Estados Separados" and then laughed and walked away and it was pretty funny. He is not all the way there, but the thing that was crazy is that I talked to him the whole time and knew what he was saying to me. The first day when he came up to us I was honestly like scared cause I didn't know what he was talking about or if it was normal, but it just shows how much more used to life here I am because I wasn't freaked out anymore!! Kind of refreshing to have a direct comparison like that. Today even a guy at the laundromat was talking to us and the conversation was simple enough that I could jump in and talk and if I didn't know what something meant my comp would answer it, but at the end he told us we both had good Spanish and it was huge for me because I don't think he knew my Spanish is lowkey not good!! So that was awesome for me. Honestly the gift of tongues is real guys God is blessing me a ton with the language learning coming fast!!
That's about all for the week guys!! I think I'm going to start trying the Google photos album thing because I always have a hard time choosing pictures, so that will have bonus content in it!! I'll link it by the photos next week!! Love all of you so so much and have a great next week!!
Much love,
Elder Bacon
