Monday, December 4, 2023 - Welcome back to the Hunger Games🫡

Hey peeps

Wow. Crazy couple of days. Unfortunately nothing too crazy or fun this week.

I am in Miramonte! It's SUPER different than my old area. Where I live is what I imagined the mission field to be like when I read my call of "San Salvador". I'm right in the chunk of the city. It's super super different than my old jungle-city-suburb hybrid that Versailles is.

I said goodbye to Elder Tripp, it was a pretty quick goodbye which was weird after being with someone 24/7 for 3 months straight, but I am going to see him around for the next couple of weeks before he goes home (including today actually). My new companion is Elder Lorenzo! He is from Guatemala, and hardly speaks any English so we are in full Spanish mode. Not going to lie, it's a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. It's not super easy to just make small talk all the time but we can actually talk to each other just fine and I understand almost everything he says first try so that's pretty nice. Me and him get along well too which is good.

Some quick little events from the last few days here:
-met this Italian lady and she told me (in english) the only way that America can be saved is through Donald Trump. Thought that was a pretty random comment from a random lady in El Salvador🇺🇲
-had soccer night here and met the other 3 Elders here in my ward, one of which is my "brother" in the mission (for all the non-missionaries, your trainer in the mission is your "dad", and Elder Tripp was this missionaries trainer, so we are "brothers".) My "brother" Elder Hernandez is also training so I got to meet my nephew Elder Williams, pretty fun👪
-for some reason fireworks starting going off at 1am the other night. How peaceful🎆
-our neighbors apparently play American music every Saturday night, so I get a lil US music time once a week🎶 this week it was mainly Bruno Mars😆
-I talked to this member about the Eras tour cause she had a cup from when she went and saw the movie, Taylor Swift fans are you proud of me for attempting that conversation in spanish??🎤👩
-it gets cold here at night, and now Elder Lorenzo is lending me one of his blankets after he saw me covered up with my towel over half my body after the first night, so now I have a nice little towel-blanket combo😃
-this missionary here insists that I look exactly like Joe Burrow. People please confirm or deny this fact do i look like joe shisty???🏈

If I'm being honest, the past few days have been incredibly hard for me. I had no idea how hard it would be to leave my old area, the other missionaries there, the ward, Tripp, and my investigators that I was teaching. Honestly I was feeling quite ready to leave my first area and experience something new. It has been a massive adjustment. I made a lot of Hunger Games analogies in the beginning of these emails. SPOILER ALERT🚨🚨🚨 I feel like Katniss, Peeta, and Hamich (oof that spelling) when they find out they have to run it back with another Hunger Games. Just freaking out about how I have to go through the same feelings of stress, loneliness, and heartache that I did when I first got to the mission field. But I have been praying so incredibly hard for help and adjustment, and I have felt the love from my Heavenly Father maybe the most in my entire life over the past few days. I am hoping that with a little bit more time and adjustment, me and Lorenzo can start cookin with this area and get the work flowing, and I can get into a groove again like I was before.

Love you all so much, you guys are in my thoughts and prayers. Miss you guys always,

Elder Bacon🫡 (*hunger games whistle*)
